The West Indian American Day Carnival http://www.wiadca.org/ is the biggest parade in New York, with over 3 million participants annually. In 2007, a contingent of Obama volunteers walked the length of the parade route on Eastern Parkway distributing fliers, handing out materials and registering voters . On Aug. 28th, Senator Obama issued a nationwide call to all his supporters to go out and register voters. Let’s answer his call on Saturday, August 30th, and help kick off of the last big voter-registration push before the PA deadline. We will travel by MegaBus to Philly where we will meet up with our Field Organizer and hit the block parties of NW Philly to do voter registration. (If you have difficulty walking and would like to be at a stationary location, we can arrange that.)

If you have a car and prefer to drive, please let me know where you live, and how many passengers you could take with you. If we have enough interest, we will have cars going as well as the Megabus group.

If you would like to stay and work over the weekend, let me know ASAP and I will put you in touch with someone who can arrange supporter housing for you.

Let’s keep the momentum in Brooklyn going! Last Friday nearly 20 volunteers registered nearly 600 voters and I write this on the eve of a second event where 21 volunteers are ready to rally more support for Barack in Brooklyn.

OUR THIRD EVENT will take place at the Fulton Street Mall on Thursday, January 17th where we will

1.) Ask people to declare their support for Barack Obama by signing our sheet and possibly even offering to volunteer.
2.) Show voters what a presence and great, energetic vibe Barack Obama supporters have and generate!
3.) Sell Obama gear (buttons, shirts, posters, bracelets, etc) for donations.

In the last week and a half I have taken part in a bunch of Obama campaign events and every single time it has been a GREAT time. Lots of people have come out and volunteered for the campaign for their very first time, and they too have really enjoyed themselves. I hope you can join us too!

We are going to begin at 5PM (an hour earlier than normal) because there are a bunch of people who can arrive that early. However, if you can’t get there until later, don’t worry! The annual 3rd Avenue Festival in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is September 30 from 10AM to 6PM. It stretches from Bay Ridge Avenue to 93rd Street and we will have a table in the middle of it all. This event is a perfect opportunity to reach the thousands of people from Bay Ridge and surrounding neighborhoods that will attend.

What we want to do is: 1) Raise Obama awareness in this part of Brooklyn; 2) Recruit new members for Bay Ridge for Obama; 3) Register people to vote; 4) Have fun!

What we need is: YOU! An hour, two hours, even fifteen minutes would be great. At the 5th Avenue Festival we had a lot of fun and made a big impact. We want this festival to blow it away! We want every person who comes to the 3rd Avenue Fest to know how strong Obama’s support is in the 13th Congressional District.

My love of country and family has presented me with a great opportunity to not only do something great for the cause and community on a whole but also teach my son a great and valuable lesson. So my plan is to set up a table where people can stop by pick up literature sign up to volunteer and just meet and exchange thoughts and ideas. Since I cant get out to the people and walk I’ll do my part by catching the high volume of people who’ll pass by our party on the corner of President St. and Franklin Ave. Franklin Ave. is a major artery in Crown Heights. If you live in the ‘hood stop by and say hi.
